The "Godfather Collection" is coming to Blu-ray later this year. The box set will contain all three films, each presented on a 50GB disc, and a fourth disc of extras. Each film has been restored by Zoetrope Studios, with a frame-by-frame remaster under the direction of Francis Ford Coppola and restoration expert Kim Aubry. Apart from Hi-Def (1080p) video, the films' audio have been remastered in English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround.

Missing Footage from Metropolis Found

According to articles in the German press and on the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung website a 16mm negative of a long version of Metropolis (1927) has been found in an archive in Argentina. This negative includes scenes that have been presumed lost for many years. While the condition of the negative is not great (see screen captures in the linked article) the additional scenes will be restored and included in a new restoration of the film, which should eventually be released on home video formats. The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

The 3rd Bourne film pack a serious punch. The Bourne Ultimatum continues the story established in Identity and Supremacy and is one of the best action films of the past few years. Matt Damon is Jason Bourne. The video is great and the audio is fantastic.

Carolina is a disappointment because of the nature of the script. The major performances are first rate and, despite the flaws, the film is amusing, and even moving. Worth a look - despite the fact that it is not a widescreen transfer. Shame!

This is the film that apparently got Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal dating, but they don't even appear in a single scene together. Rendition is a modern political drama that is attempting to tackle some pretty serious issues. The video and audio are fantastic.

Every fan of RoboCop has been anxiously awaiting the day when it is presented on a disc that equals the film for awesomeness. Well, the wait is still ongoing. The Blu-ray Disc on which Fox has seen fit to present RoboCop is certainly an upgrade over previous formats, but there is still such a long way to go.

After a monumental production phase that took the best part of two years, Superman: The Movie premiered to critical adulation and massive box office returns. Now, Warner Brothers has chosen to use it as a test run for both HD disc formats. The Blu-ray version is an excellent disc, even if the extras have been pared down a tad.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the latest muscly action star to turn to broad family fodder for a healthy paycheque. As far as these affairs go, The Game Plan isn't terrible but it is going to leave a lot of fans scratching their heads. At least it's presented on a decent disc.
